Berberine is an alkaloid of plant origin, belonging to the class of protoberberines. Its sources are, among others: barberry, Chinese tincture, goldenseal. It is obtained from the root, leaves, fruits and bark of plants. Berberine lowers blood sugar levels and helps maintain a healthy body weight. Longer use of berberine is associated with the accumulation of the alkaloid in the body. The addition of standardized milk thistle extract helps cleanse the body and contributes to liver detoxification.

The action of berberine

Berberine has a hypoglycemic and lipid-lowering effect. It increases the secretion of insulin under the influence of glucose, and also stimulates the sensitivity of cells to insulin. The use of berberine helps to reduce the body mass index (BMI), the level of triglycerides, total cholesterol and LDL fraction in the blood.
