Butcher's broom, or otherwise the barbed buzzard (Ruscus aculeatus) belongs to plants from the asparagus family. In natural conditions, it occurs in the area of the Mediterranean Sea. The rhizome of the plant is used in cosmetics and herbal medicine.

Ruszczyk is an evergreen shrub growing up to 60 cm. Its characteristic features are leaf-shaped, pointed shoots and scarlet fruits, similar to berries. The raw material used in supplementation is the rhizome, which is harvested in late autumn.

The most valuable substance found in the root of the plant is ruscogenin. Butcher's broom rhizome is used in problems of the circulatory system. The saponins contained in it increase the tension of the venous walls, improve blood circulation, protect the structure of blood and lymphatic vessels, reduce swelling.
